Preparation & Notes

"Test Description: PBG is the immediate precursor of porphyrins and is produced in excess and excreted in the urine in acute intermittent porphyria. Sample Requirement: 10 mL from a random urine collection. (Minimum Volume required: 5 mL). Keep sample refrigerated and Protect from light. Store in brown container or wrap in tin/aluminum foil. Deliver on ice. Adjust to pH 8 with sodium carbonate and not with sodium bicarbonate. Specimen with properly adjusted pH is stable for up to 72 hours when refrigerated and 8 months when frozen at below -20 oC. Specimen stored at room temperature is not acceptable. "
